Nappy rash

Posted

Nappy rash is produce when the moisture in the child's urine and stools rub against his body. Chemical irritation caused by bacteria in urine can also cause rash. This is to be found more usually in children whose nappies are not changed often. So do change nappies frequently.

And wash your baby at every change, as previously explained. Use plastic over the pants only if you must. Use a bland soap to wash the nappies and rinse them in enough water until the last traces of soap are removed. Dry them in sun. The heat of the sun's rays will kill any remaining bacteria.

In case of rash, keep the affected area exposed to air and sunshine. If the rash is dry, use the petroleum jelly on the affected areas. If it is wet and not infected, keep the area exposed to air until the rash heals.

If a rash persists, see your doctor; he will recommend a zinc-based ointment which is very effective.
